FAQ
Common questions.
Does Lyricsmit store my files?
No. Lyricsmit generates a cryptographic fingerprint (SHA-256 hash) and timestamp from your file. Only the fingerprint is stored — the file itself is discarded immediately after processing and never retained.
Is this copyright protection?
No. Lyricsmit provides proof-of-existence records only. It creates a verifiable timestamp showing a file existed at a specific moment — it does not determine ownership, authorship, or legal rights.
Who is Lyricsmit for?
Songwriters, musicians, producers, rappers, photographers, designers, writers, students, and creators of all kinds — anyone who wants an independent record of their work before sharing it.
Why create a proof-of-existence record before sharing your work?
To create a verifiable, independent record showing when a file existed before collaboration, distribution, or public sharing. Useful when context or timing is disputed.
Is Lyricsmit free to use?
Yes. Creating a standard timestamped record is free. A premium certificate with enhanced presentation is available as an optional upgrade.
How does the fingerprinting work?
A SHA-256 cryptographic fingerprint is generated from your file — a unique string representing the exact contents of your file at that moment. The fingerprint and timestamp are saved. The file itself is discarded immediately and never retained.
